Bed of Nails Setup Options

The Test > Bed of Nails node of the Process Options Editor provides the following setup options:

Testing Time

By default, the elapsed time to test a board with the Bed of Nails process is specified by the cost model variable defaultTestTime (5 seconds in starting point Digital Factories). With the setup option Testing Time (provided by the Test > Bed of Nails node of the Process Options Editor), users can override the default on a per-part basis. Cycle time per part is directly proportional to testing time.

Number of Test Cores

By default, Bed-of-Nails cycle time is calculated under the assumption that the number of boards tested at once is specified by the machine property Number of Test Cores. If the machine property lacks a value, the number of parts tested at once is assumed, by default, to be the value of the cost model variable defaultNumTestCores (1 in starting point Digital Factories).

With the setup option Number of Test Cores (provided by the Test > Bed of Nails node of the Process Options Editor), users can override the default on a per-part basis. Specify a value that is no greater than the machine property Number of Test Cores.

The number of parts tested at once is inversely proportional to cycle time and directly proportional to hard tooling cost.

Prober Assembly Time

By default, the time to assemble a prober is specified by the cost model variable defaultProberAssemblyTime (16 hours in starting point Digital Factories). Users can override the default on a per-part basis with the setup option Prober Assembly Time (provided by the Test > Bed of Nails node of the Process Options Editor).

Prober assembly time drives hard tooling cost.
